"For their first album, “Join The Q”, Brighton electro-rock wizards The Qemists crafted a set of massive floorfilling anthems featuring contributions from all manner of special guests. Whereas for the follow-up, “Spirit In The System”, they’ve crafted a set of massive floorfilling anthems featuring contributions from all manner of special guests. Whodathunkit? OK, snide observations aside, I have to give credit where credit’s due, and this lot couldn’t have a better credit rating if they’d just won the EuroMillions. While they don’t have a guest quite as awesome as Mike Patton this time round, Enter Shikari help give the massive opener “Take It Back” a kick up the arse in their own inimitable style, which precedes the excellent “Hurt Less”, marking the return of the outstanding Jenna G to Qemist special guest duties. “Spirit In The System” is very similar to its predecessor in terms of the hugeness of the tunes, the impact of their d ‘n’ b / rock crossover approach and the quality of both the flawless production and the songwriting; these guys have more ideas than a ton of Leonardo Da Vinci’s and know how to put them to the possible best use. A great second record from the only band so far to sound like the true heirs to the Prodigy’s crown."
